Kalmar receives large port equipment orders from ICTSI in the Philippines

2015 Press
CARGOTEC CORPORATION, PRESS RELEASE, 21 APRIL 2015 AT 9.45 AM (EEST)

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has received two separate orders from one of the world's leading container terminal operators, International Container Services Inc. (ICTSI) in the Philippines. Kalmar will deliver in total 42 Kalmar Ottawa terminal tractors, five Kalmar reachstackers and two Kalmar rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) to Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), and 16 Kalmar Ottawa terminal tractors and two Kalmar RTGs to Subic Bay International Terminal Corporation (SBITC). The orders have been booked into the first quarter of 2015.

Two of the Kalmar Gloria reachstackers (Kalmar DRG450-60S5M) and three Kalmar empty container handlers (Kalmar DCT80) will be supplied to MICT by the end April 2015. All Kalmar Ottawa terminal tractors will be delivered to Manila and SBITC's new container terminal in Zambales during the third quarter. The delivery of Kalmar E-One2 RTGs is scheduled for completion by end-November 2015.

The massive expansion of terminal operations currently underway at MICT and SBITC has required an increase in the existing fleets. These new Kalmar units will help increase the efficiency of the loading and unloading of containers and cargo in the ports, as well as assisting with anticipated growth. MICT currently accounts for the major container traffic moving through Manila. SBITC, with excellent road and air linkages, is the major gateway for Central and Northern Luzon.

Commenting on the order, Mohamed Ghandar, ICTSI Director Asia Region and General Manager of MICT, said, "MICT is ICTSI's flagship operation and since 1988 we have increased the terminal's annual capacity five-fold. We are expanding the cargo handling fleet to make it the largest and most modern terminal operation in the Philippines." Roberto Locsin, General Manager of SBITC, commented, "SBITC is growing rapidly and it is expected to become a major port. That's why we have turned to Kalmar once again. The quantity of the units is significant, and we know they will deliver outstanding performance."

Björn Jonasson, Sales Director, APAC, at Kalmar said, "We are thrilled to support and supply equipment to ICTSI group companies in their continuous global expansion. ICTSI has been a loyal Kalmar customer for a long time, and we are both committed to developing equipment and providing services that are on a par with the world's leading container terminals."
